South Island Day 8

After a good night's rest, we were pleasantly surprised to see that our host had provided us with all the fixings for a yummy breakfast. We had a nice hot filling breakfast and repacked up our van to continue our journey. We drove to a lookout point to view Fox Glacier and also Franz Josef Glacier. They were cool, but not as overwhelming as the Rob Roy Glacier that we had seen earlier on in our trip. But, we were glad to have seen them to compare their beauty. We then visited Matheson Lake (Mirror Lake) but because it wasn't a sunny day, we weren't able to see the famous reflection. But we still enjoyed the walk through the forest and also loved Cody trying to drop Gavin into the water =)

We had read that Pancake Rocks were amazing to see at high tide to get the full impact of the blowhole and spray. But our timing didn't match up perfectly. We decided it was still worth a try and we were so glad that we made it! Pancake Rocks were so so cool! They were these awesome rock formations that jutted out of the ocean in crazy cool layers. We didn't get the full effect with the water of the blowholes but we still loved that view! It wasn't crowded and we could take our time looking and marveling at the sight.

We grabbed Indian food in a small town as we continued to drive to our home for the night. We had another late night arrival. Thankfully our host was so accommodating and met us late. Cody, Reese, and I stayed in a small cabin and the boys stayed in a little bach steps away. Mike and Lois stayed at the hostess' home. Her property was amazing and she was completely off the grid. She had water tanks, solar panels, generators, wood burning stoves, and every comfort of life on her cool property. The kids were bummed that it was raining when we woke because she had a really cool playground and entertainment for the kids. But, some of them still braved the rain and got a bit wet to enjoy the fun.
