South Island Day 3
On our third day, we packed up and said goodbye to Christchurch. We decided to take a longer detour to Castle Hill, a famous place filmed in Narnia. And we are so glad that we did! It was gorgeous…one of our favorite places we visited on our whole trip! The day could not have been more perfect…nice temperature, bright blue sky, white puffy clouds, and everywhere we looked we were surrounded by green. The rocks were so cool and towered over us. We loved climbing the hill to overlook the gorgeous farmland and mountains surrounding us. The boys loved climbing the rocks and reenacting the scene from the movie. We got back in the car and drove past breathtaking fields of lupins in every shade of purple. It was stunning! We sat on the shore of Lake Tekapo and skipped rocks in the turquoise water. We also admired the even more gorgeous glacier water of Lake Pukaki. We drove near Mt Cook, the tallest mountain in New Zealand and stopped for fun posed pictures. We stopped in a small town and ate Turkish Kebabs for dinner…yum! (side note: it may have taken a long time each night to decide on where to eat after browsing the reviews on Trip Advisor, but our research paid off because we never ate a bad meal and loved trying tons of new things!) We made it to our destination of Alexandra late that evening where we would be staying in a motel for the next 2 nights. We always rolled into our home/motel just as the sun was setting around 9 each night. We were always exhausted but completely fulfilled after a great day of exploring.
