We bought a car! After searching online and in person all over Auckland, we finally settled on a car! We bought a Mazda MPV with 8 seats. It's like a squished mini van. They don't have this car in the US. It came from Japan and has Japanese lettering on the camera in our car and it even speaks to us in Japanese. Hopefully we aren't missing some crucial information by not knowing the language! A lot of cars are imported from Japan and the cars are pretty cheap with very few miles (they are in km here). We got a great deal.
Gas here is very expensive. It equals about $4 a gallon. I've been relying on Cody to make all the km and liter conversions but I'll have to learn quickly! A lot of the gas stations here don't have a pay at the pump option and you have to go inside to pay. You actually pump first and then pay. They had a bed store attached to a gas station that we used one day...very random! And we're getting used to the New Zealand money system. The conversion rate from New Zealand money to American money is about .67 cents to $1.
Driving on the other side of the road hasn't been too bad! I've had Ethan as my trusty navigator and it makes things much easier. The thing that I really have a hard time with is the darn blinker! I keep thinking it's on the left of the steering wheel and then I get the left and right signals mixed up all the time. It will get easier over time…
