Stingrays

We live near a harbour with lots of sailboats and fishing boats. We've been told by many that these fishing boats attract lots of fish and stingrays and that it is quite the experience to feed them. I have a friend that we call the "Stingray Whisperer" because she and her daughter don't just throw food into the water from the dock and watch the stingrays eat, but actually hand feed them from the rocks. So, we asked her to show us her magic. One day during the school holiday, we met at the harbour and she taught us her tricks. Unfortunately, we didn't have success with seeing any stingrays that day. But, we went on our own another day and were able to see a few. We weren't successful in hand feeding them, but we still loved seeing how huge they are (3 feet long!) and still enjoyed throwing anchovies into the water. I loved seeing how serious Ethan took the task. The kids weren't disgusted by the smell or feel of the anchovies and actually found them pretty funny…until they smelled their hands at the end =) We will definitely be back and keep trying until we can lure the stingrays to our hands.
