Goat Island & Pakiri Beach

We decided to stay a little more local this weekend and only drove an hour north to explore. We headed to Leigh to see if there was anything cool to see. We had a picnic overlooking Goat Island and the view was breathtaking! We read up on some cool oceans creatures and then headed to the shore to explore. It was low tide so we checked out the tide pools. We saw a few crabs, snails, sea urchins, and tiny fish. But as we looked into the water, we saw huge fish...2 feet long! It was really cool to see. We're looking forward to going back in the summer to swim & snorkel with the fish.

We got in the car to find some more cool places. We ended up at Pakiri Beach. It was a bit chilly and windy so we bundled up to walk the beach. It was a long wide empty beach. It looked like a great place for surfers. We found our first sand dollars since being here. The coast was littered with tons of fun shells. We also found a dead puffer fish and a fish head. The kids loved it! I loved watching the kids run to their hearts' content and being carefree.

We drove around some other little towns along the way. We passed lots of fruit & veggie stands and scored some avocados for really cheap. It was a great relaxing day being out and about exploring the areas around us.
