We headed to North Head for the afternoon. It is located in charming little suburb called Devonport at the end of the Waitemata Harbour that overlooks the city. North Head is a military reserve with guns, tunnels, and trails and we loved it! We had a picnic lunch with a view of Sky Tower in the distance. We spent a few hours exploring the tunnels and caverns that they had built for their guns and storage. The trails were gorgeous and ran along the coast. It was neat to see how prepared they were for war, even though they were never attacked. It was a beautiful sunny day with a bit of wind and we loved being outdoors. We will definitely be back!

North Head
Saturdays are usually our fun days, but we had a few errands that we needed to run in the city. We're currently looking into adding a trailer hitch on our van so we can transport all of our bikes to do fun family bike rides. Also, we've implemented a plan of working and earning towards purchasing kayaks for the family. The way the kids are zooming through chores, responsibilities, and practice we should be able to purchase 2 3-seater kayaks in a couple of months. So we were also checking out kayaks and roof rack options. Since we were in the city we decided to have our fun for the day down in that area.

I love that last picture of the kids. They're looking so big!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving those unique trees on the beach. They don't look like anything we have here. Also, I'm surprised that you guys always seem to have your hikes/beaches to yourselves. Are there just no crowds? Or do you try to avoid them?
